Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup buttermilk (or whole milk, if you don’t have buttermilk)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
Melt the butter: In a medium bowl, melt the 1/2 cup of butter in the microwave or on the stove. Once melted, pour the butter into the bottom of a 9x9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized pan. The butter should cover the bottom of the dish.
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar until well combined.
Add wet ingredients: Pour the buttermilk (or whole milk) into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The dough should be slightly lumpy and very thick.
Form the biscuits: Drop spoonfuls of the dough over the melted butter in the baking dish. You don’t need to shape them perfectly—just drop them in the dish, and they will spread and form biscuits as they bake.
Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.
Serve: Let the biscuits cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them with butter, honey, or jam!
Tips:
If you don't have buttermilk, you can substitute it by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to a cup of milk. Let it sit for a few minutes to thicken.
For a slightly crispier bottom, use a cast-iron skillet instead of a baking dish. It helps the butter create an even, crispy edge.
